Why we created Open Nettest
Users often resource to a speed test when they want to verify their internet access service. Even with the current market-leading tools, it is a challenge to objectively verify the quality of the internet service they are getting.
That is why we created Open Nettest, an independent and transparent tool for the measurement of the internet connection in fixed, cellular and WiFi networks. The app follows industry standards and KPIs as defined by BEREC, ITU and others.
Why Open Nettest is different
There have been already several speed test apps that can do this. What makes Open Nettest different is that it is based on an open, transparent methodology.
There are no internet service providers who would sponsor the measurement ecosystem. The measurement servers are located outside of the operators’ networks, at various internet exchange points.
Open Nettest respects your privacy
Another strong differentiator is privacy. We do not collect any unnecessary personal data from the users and do not link the data collected to create user profiles. Moreover, we properly anonymise any sensitive data, such as location information and IP address, before we use the data for statistical analysis and reports.
We are currently in process of transitioning our infrastructure to a private cloud hosted in Europe, which further mitigates the risks related to public cloud infrastructures. To learn more, please visit the privacy policy page.
Open Nettest available on supported platforms
This speed test app is available on the web, as a mobile app for Android and iOS devices and as a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Similarly, hardware probes and a command-line client (CLI) are available for more advanced use cases. Thus, Open Nettest supports a wide range of end users, who can access the Internet with a variety of network devices and technologies.
